FEM OF ELECTROMAGNETIC SYSTEMS
The computational calculation at the service of electromagnetic systems
Also in the field of electromagnetic systems it is possible to apply FEM (Finite Element Analysis) in the design phase, recently Phi Drive in this perspective has been designing an electromagnet.
The analysis of electromagnetic problems is regulated using a simplification of Maxwell’s laws. However the results become less accurate when relevant factors such as: complex geometries, localized saturation, air gaps of significant importance or skin effect occur in the presence of surface currents, etc.
Thanks to the FEM analysis it was possible to improve the performance of the electromagnet in order of 50%, making changes aimed at the geometry of the core and offering the attraction force of the anchor to grow and go from 900 N first up to the value of 1400 N .
The FEM analysis is therefore a very powerful tool for the design and optimization of an electromagnetic problem.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC FEM ANALYSIS
- Design of electromagnets;
- Support for laboratory activities of electromagnetic systems;
- Optimization of electromagnetic systems;
- Analysis of the effects of proximity;
- Study of the magnetic field produced by transformers;
- Design of coils with movable core or actuators.
